Frequently asked questions

We understand you might have questions about mobile dog grooming, especially if it's new to you. We've compiled a list of common questions to help you feel more comfortable and informed before booking with Scooby Doodles. Our goal is to make the grooming experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible for both you and your dog.

What are some common questions about your mobile dog grooming service?

Q - Do we do the groom in your home?

A - Yes, all grooming takes place in the comfort of your own home.

Q - How long does a groom take?

A - We aim for 2 hours, which includes setting up and clearing up time. However, nervous or anxious dogs may take a little longer as the idea is to reduce any fear or anxiety they may have.

Q - Do we groom any breed and size of dog?

A - We only groom small and medium sized dogs. We cannot accept dogs that are banned or subject to the Dangerous Dogs Register.

Q - My dog has nipped at other groomers, will they be okay to groom at home?

A - Possibly, as they will be in familiar surroundings. If they do still nip, an appropriate muzzle may need to be used for the groom to go ahead.

Q - Can I watch my dog being groomed?

A- Absolutely! However pet parents are not allowed to pet their dog whilst being groomed for safety reasons.

Are there any tips for preparing my dog and home for your visit?

Pet parents should provide an appropriate space for us to set up our grooming table and tools. The groomer will tidy up the grooming area once the groom is completed before they leave.

If a dog is particularly fearful about being groomed, it is advised to speak to the vet prior to the groom to discuss the possibility of sedative medication ready for grooming day.

Prior to the first groom with Scooby Doodles, there will be a discussion with pet parents about their requirements and expectations. Information about their dog's health, allergies, and personality will be discussed and kept on record for insurance purposes.

It is very important that young children are fully supervised by parents throughout the grooming process and do not allow their children to approach the grooming table at any time as there are very sharp scissors and tools being used along with high powered electrical items. If children are found to be unsupervised or insufficiently supervised during the grooming process, the groom will stop and not continue!! This is to ensure the health and safety of the child, the groomer and the dog.

What happens during the grooming session, and what should I expect afterwards?

Upon arrival, the groomer will set up all necessary equipment in the owner's chosen space for the groom.

A little time will then be spent with the dog to familiarise them with the groomer.

The dog will then be bathed and pat dried in the pet parent's bathroom using the groomer's own professional shampoo and conditioner. The groomer will bring their own highly absorbent towels to dry the dog.

The dog will then be trimmed/styled. If the dog is showing signs of distress, short breaks will be taken to complete the groom without adding additional stress to the dog.

Sometimes it is not possible to fully complete the groom due to the dog's high stress/anxiety levels. This is fine as it can be completed in stages and on different days (if necessary). However, this is rare, and grooms can usually be completed within the allocated appointment time.

The groomer will always tidy the grooming area before leaving.
